CITS In 60 Seconds

  • The CITS Mission

CITS works to limit the spread of chemical, biological, nuclear, and radiological weapons technology by informing and training policymakers, industry representatives, and enforcement officials around the world. The Center conducts training workshops, produces informative publications, and prepares students for careers in diplomacy and nonproliferation.

  • Training and Workshops

CITS conducts nonproliferation training events several times a year. The core of the Center's training program is the two-week CITS Academy, which takes place twice a year in Athens, Georgia and hosts up to 60 officials at a time. Researchers also travel to other countries to provide tailored training that addresses concerns specific to the host country or region.

  • Student programs

Through the Richard B. Russell Security Leadership Program and the Nonproliferation and International Security graduate focus, CITS is training the next generation of security officials and diplomats in the advancement of nonproliferation and disarmament. Our Norinco Student Ambassador program strengthens ties with our industry partners in China.
